Europe Trip Planning - Which Region Should I Visit?

Zurich, Switzerland Focusing on the first step you should take when organizing a trip to Europe, it is important to know what to expect from every region in Europe. As always, I recommend to focus in one single region per trip, as in this way you’ll get a lot more insight and you’ll have the opportunity to come back another year and visit a different region. Let’s take a look at how you can organize your Europe trip planning in a way that allows you to select your favorite region.

If you are the kind of person made for natural spaces and you get a bit stressed when entering big and crowded region, the regions for your are going to be central Europe, specially Austria and Switzerland, or the Nordic countries. If you love high mountains, lakes, glaciers, then central Europe will be the best choice. Instead, if you are more into vast flat landscapes and archipelagos covered by deep forest, then I would definitely go north and visit the Nordic countries. It is then a first important step in your Europe trip planning to define if you are looking to see nature or your prefer big cities tourism.

Cruising After you know that, then it comes the time to ask yourself if you are looking to have holidays by the sea. If you want the kind of sun and beach time with your family or friends, the south of Europe will do your best. Spain, Italy or Greece, being Greece the ideal if you are looking for great cruising opportunities. At same time, the south of Europe is an amazingly cultural section of the continent and trips to visit the cities and their long standing famous landmarks will make the visit even more interesting. Having this said, it is obvious that the question you need to ask yourself for your Europe trip planning is if you need the ocean next to you or you can do without it.

Having this solved, another step approaches. You don’t need nature, you don’t need great beach opportunities, and you don’t like the Nordic countries. Now the next step in Europe trip planning is to decide if you are looking for the most famous sightseeing or you prefer the most exotic and undiscovered parts of Europe. If you prefer the undiscovered parts, I would focus on Eastern Europe, including Russia and the Baltic countries.

Paris Instead if your answer was no, the last step in Europe trip planning will be to decide between the Benelux region including France or the UK and Ireland or Germany. In a few words, Paris and Amsterdam, London and Dublin or Berlin and some main German cities. What to expect? Absolutely different cultures here and there, but in the end as a tourist what you’ll get is more or less the same. Big old cities with old history, high population and some of the most developed regions of the continent.

In any case, for an adequate Europe trip planning and if you are not specially familiar with European culture the best you can do is to ask for help to any trip organizer that can build up an itinerary based on your information of preferences. In any case, never let a travel agency do the work, as they will get big commissions from you and they’ll never be neutral in their selection of places.
